Brynna's Third Week

Well this week has been much better. The antibiotics are kicking in and we are all on our road to recovery. Brynna is gaining weight as she should. This week she weighed 9 lbs and 7 oz. This week she also lost her umbilical cord so she was able to take a real bath. She didn't seem to mind it at first but once I did her hair she was all upset. She also got a visit from her Great Grandma Jackie that lives in Nebraska. She liked nestling up in her arms and sleeping.

Brynna's Second week

our little glow worm irritated with the billy blanket.

Our second week home was a little rougher than we thought it would be. Everyone in the house ended up being sick. We ended up at the doctors office with Dane to get him some medicine and since we were there we went ahead and had them check Brynna out as well. I am so thankful that we did because our doctor thought that she looked a little more jaundice than what we said she was when she was discharged. The last night in the hospital she was in the NICU under the billy light because her levels were high. By the time we left she had come down enough to go home. The doctor was concerned enough to have us go to the hospital and have her tested. The test came back and sure enough her levels had rebounded and were really high. The doctor ended up having a billy light sent to the house and we had to keep her on it for 5 days. It was such a pain to keep on her and nursing was even more difficult. The worst part was having to have her heel stuck so many times to test her blood and make sure her levels were going down. Finally after the 5 days she looked much better and we were given the ok to take it off. I am so thankful that we have such a wonderful pediatrician. She is always more on the cautious side and it has benefited us more than once.

Dane is 19 months old!

I had to post this picture because it is the only one that he is not making that cheesy smile.

Three generations of Sapp men.

Dane at the zoo with his good buddy Levi. They are 2 months apart.
Dane is 19 months old now and as strong willed as ever. We are definitely in full swing with the temper tantrums. Some days he is the sweetest little boy and other days are a little more challenging. Dane has a new role now as a big brother and he is taking it very seriously. He is so attentive to Brynna's needs. When she cries he is usually right there trying to pat and rub her while talking to her, it is the sweetest thing to watch. He is such a great helper too. If it is time to feed her he will go get my nursing pillow for me and he always brings me a blanket for her too. When she is in her bouncy seat he likes to go and bounce her gently for the first few minutes and then tries to use it as a baby sling shot. His new favorite thing to do is hold her. We have daily breakdowns because I eventually have to take her back. He just wants to keep her in his lap. I really love to see him go and kiss her. Although he loves her and wants to take care of her he is still having a tough time adjusting to sharing Jacob and I. He tends to be really spiteful and angry with me throughout the day when I feed her or get her out of her crib. I really try to do my best to give him special attention but it is really difficult sometimes. We have been doing our best to stay busy and get out as we usually did.

I ended up taking Dane to the doctor because he had bronchitis and he weighed in at 28 lbs. He is growing up so quickly it seems like. It will not be long before he will be 2. Jacob and I are in constant amazement at the things he is learning and yet sad at the same time. Lately he is really into rolling on the floor and being rough with dad. He likes to drag Jacob across the floor and pull him on top of him. There is no denying that this kid is all BOY. His new words are bye bye (in a very southern accent) and NO (in a very loud and firm voice). We are also making progress on the food selection. He is still pretty picky and day to day changes his mind but he is getting better at trying new foods. Now he will usually eat peanut butter and jelly and he loves rice. He is still not a big fan of pasta, meat, or veggies though.

We are home

We made it home last Friday and have been going to appointments like crazy. Dane managed to get everyone sick while we were at the hospital, even me. I came home only to go to Urgent Care the next day because of Bronchitis. Jacob has had major allergy problems and we just took Dane to the doctor today and he had to get some antibiotics and steroids too. We got hit with a double whammy right off the bat. Brynna is doing very well. By the time we left the hospital she weighed 8.6 and when the home follow up nurse came yesterday she still weighed the same so we are able to let her sleep till her heart is content at night. She seems to go about 5 hours which is so appreciated. So far Brynna and Dane could not be more opposite. Brynna is so calm, laid back, and such a good sleeper. We have already been out and about a couple different times with her. I didn't take Dane out to the grocery store for like 3 months.

Dane is having a difficult time adjusting but that is to be expected. Every day we seem to get a little closer and closer to him accepting her. The first day we brought her home he would scream bloody murder if she was even in his view. Now he is more curious about her and will touch her. The hardest part is that he is into his tantrums phase and this just put him into it full swing. Every little thing is the end of the world and there is no shortness of screaming going on in our house at anytime. It doesn't help that we are all sick too.  Never the less it is so good to be home and it is so nice to be together as a family. Jacob is off with us until the 15th of June so I couldn't be more fortunate to have such a great helper here.
